OIC to Consider Key Recommendations from First International Forum on Strengthening Integrity in the Tourism Sector

Published: 15 Jul 2025
The recommendations adopted during the First International Forum on Strengthening Integrity in the Tourism Sector, held on 6–7 May 2025 in Maldives, will be formally submitted for consideration at the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministerial Meeting, as well as the next OIC Anti-Corruption Ministerial Meeting.
Held under the theme “Combating Corruption and Strengthening Integrity in the Tourism Sector,” the forum brought together more than 190 participants from over 50 countries, including high-level officials, experts, and representatives from regional and international organizations. The event was co-hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Maldives.
The forum concluded with a series of comprehensive recommendations aimed at reinforcing transparency, accountability, and cross-border cooperation in the tourism sector. These included calls to promote the High-Level Principles on Integrity in Tourism, support international anti-corruption frameworks, and strengthen cooperation among law enforcement bodies across OIC member states.
In a significant move, forum participants requested that the OIC Secretariat present the outcomes of the forum to the highest diplomatic and anti-corruption platforms within the OIC: the Foreign Ministerial Meeting and the Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies. This step aims to further institutionalize the forum’s recommendations and catalyze coordinated action across the Islamic world to combat corruption in tourism.
